An Almaty circuit covering the city's Soviet-era landmarks, the Shymbulak mountain resort via Medeu, and a long day trip combining Charyn Canyon and the Kolsai Lakes.
Arrive at Almaty International Airport and clear immigration and customs. Meet your driver outside the arrivals hall for a private transfer to your Almaty hotel, roughly 40km away.
A private half-day city tour after breakfast, covering Panfilov Park, the wooden Zenkov Cathedral (one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world, reportedly built without nails), and Republic Square, Almaty's main city square. Head up to Kok-Tobe hill for panoramic city views (cable car optional), with free time afterward for local markets, malls and cafés before returning to the hotel.
A private pick-up after breakfast to Medeu Valley, home to the famous Medeu skating rink, followed by the cable car up to Shymbulak Ski Resort (ticket included/optional as per the final package confirmation). Enjoy panoramic views of the snow-capped Tian Shan foothills, with free time for skiing, snowboarding or simply taking in the mountain air, before the return transfer to Almaty.
An early-morning pick-up for a long day covering two of the region's best-known natural landmarks. Charyn Canyon, roughly 200km/3-4 hours from Almaty, is a red-rock canyon system extending some 154km along the Charyn River, with sections reported up to 300m deep — often compared, on a smaller scale, to the Grand Canyon. From there, continue toward the Kolsai Lakes ("a lake in the valley" in Kazakh), a chain of turquoise alpine lakes in the Tian Shan foothills. Given the distances involved, this genuinely is a long day out — expect an early departure and a late return to Almaty; ask our team about splitting this into two separate day trips, or an overnight stay near Kolsai, if a more relaxed pace matters to you.
Check out and transfer from your Almaty hotel to the airport for your onward journey.

Yes — genuinely so. Both sites sit roughly 200-300+km from Almaty in the same general direction, and covering both in one day typically means an early-morning start and a late-evening return. Ask our team about splitting this into two days if you'd prefer a more relaxed pace.
This is confirmed at the time of booking depending on the final package selected — please check current inclusions with our team.
